Music to God’s Ears

A wind instrument is something created that makes sounds as air passes through it. These sounds are often described as musical notes. When these musical notes are repeated in harmony with other notes, or cords they become music. When these notes or sounds are not in harmony but are rather in discord they can become a distraction or annoyance to the hearers.

We are designed much like a musical instrument in that air passes in and out of the human body like a type of bellows. As air passes through our lungs and up through our vocal cords just like an instrument we producing sounds whether good or bad in the ears of God. That all brings me to my point that Satan desires to use us as vessels or musical instruments to produce an irksome noise in the ears of God but he needs our cooperation to do so.

I remember complaining to the Lord in my thoughts one evening going on and on about a circumstance in my life when all of a sudden I heard an irksome sound in my spirit like an instrument being played totally out of tune. It was a scratching, loud, scrapping, clashing noise on a musical instrument that continued in my spirit for a few moments that would have hurt my ears in the natural.

I immediately stopped my complaining and realized that this was what it sounded like in the ears of God. I was suddenly reminded of the scripture in 1 Corinthians 13:1 which states, “Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.” I then realized the sound complaining or gossip or bickering made in the ears of God and it wasn’t music. This sound was an irksome, irritating noise as though played through a yielded instrument to the enemy.

So what does the scripture say about Lucifer the day he was created?, “Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stove was thy covering, the Sardis, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tablets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day thou wad created.”

Lucifer, was the highest ranking of the cherubim, the guardian of the throne of God and his glory and holiness. The anointed cherub that covers in Ezekiel 28:14. Music was an essential part of this super anointing of God. It was his occupation, ministry and service and domain forever. That is until pride was found in him.

Now Satan, the fallen Cherub, seeks to create not music but discord, clamor, irksome noise in the ears of God continually through us God’s instruments. He does so through the works of the flesh described in the book of Galatians chapter 5. It is love of God and neighbor that creates a beautiful sound in God’s ears and we are encouraged to produce its music to continually rise up before him.

Ephesians 5:19-21 speaks of the sounds that are pleasing to the ears of God, “speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.” This is music to God’s ears when we are all in one accord while rejecting the disrupting, irksome attempts of the enemy to use us otherwise as instruments.
