Cut the Strings

When a person becomes a Christian there are changes that take place that cannot be seen with the senses and one of those changes is things are immediately flipped in regards to our positioning. While the world, the flesh and the devil always tend to and try to pull us downward much like gravity the Spirit now tends to pulls the Christian upward towards God. The lust of the flesh is a downward pull while the Spirit of God is an upward pull and call upon the believer.

This upward pull or position is hinted at in the scriptures by the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 2: 6 “And we sit together in heavenly places in Jesus Christ. Also; in Colossians 3:2 we read; “We set our minds on things above not on the things of earth.” Further in Colossians 3: 3 it states; “Our life is hidden in Christ with God. When Christ who is our life appears, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.”

I find in the Gospel of Matthew chapter 14 the Apostle Peter had an experience of having all the strings cut in verses 28-30; “And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, Lord save me.”

For Peter, the strings of doubt and unbelief were cut as he stepped out in faith keeping his eyes on Jesus. As soon as Peter took his eyes off, the strings of doubt wrapped around Peter’s ankles and began to pull him under the waves. The gravity of the situation was too much for Peter. Jesus response? “Why do you doubt?”

Jesus is here to lift us up just like he did Peter. He is here to help us cut the strings of doubt, unbelief, unforgiveness, worry, anxiety and other sins separating us from God. The enemy is a master at stringing people up. The devil like a spider ties people up in the webs of sin of which one is unbelief. His goal is not just to pull you or I down, but to wrap us up.

In this entrapped state Satan’s goal like the spider is to suck the spiritual life right out of you leaving you spiritually dead among his other encased victims. His traps come in a variety of forms of string entanglements these include: webs, snares, footholds, strongholds, bindings, bondages and other forms of entrapment.

The enemy knows it only takes one string to hold us away from God and he won’t want to let us go without a fight. The good news is all Satan’s strings on us can be cut and severed through repentance, confession of God’s Word over the situation and applying the name and blood of Jesus. In the book of Revelation we read the promise; “And they shall defeat him (Satan), by the blood of the Lamb and the Word of their testimony.”

We cut the strings with these weapons of our warfare namely: repentance, (the enemy just hates true repentance with change in regard to choices), the Word of God-our only offensive weapon, the blood of Jesus and our confession of faith. It is with these weapons we cut the strings of the enemy and like Apostle Paul we “….press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
